Influence of nonlocal dielectric response on the Au tip-enhanced fluorescence effect

Summary: A theoretical study on TEF properties of a single molecule inside a nanogap formed by Au tip and substrate in the visible range reveals that the nonlocal dielectric effect significantly suppresses the fluorescence process with increasing tip-molecule distance, while huge excitation enhancement at shorter distances can compensate for low quantum yield and lead to great fluorescence enhancement. By optimizing the tip-molecule distance, the maximum enhancement can reach as high as four orders of magnitude, providing valuable insights for understanding the TEF mechanism and its future applications.

Enhanced RI Sensitivity and SERS Performances of Individual Au Nanobipyramid Dimers

Summary: The study investigated the plasmon refractive index (RI) sensitivity and SERS performance of individual Au nanobipyramid (NBP) dimers, finding that they follow the universal plasmon ruler at specific scaled gap sizes. The maximum RI sensitivity and SERS enhancement factor of Au NBP dimers were demonstrated to be excellent. Comparisons were made with Au nanorod and nanoellipsoid counterparts, showing enhanced RI sensitivity and SERS performance of the Au NBP dimers. This study provides valuable insights for designing future Au dimer-based SERS substrates and LSPR RI sensors for chemical/biological sensing and detection.
