Impact of the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on the band structure of one-dimensional artificial magnonic crystals: A micromagnetic study

R. Silvani et al.

Summary: A systematic micromagnetic study was conducted to investigate the effect of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) on the spin wave band structure of two one-dimensional magnonic crystals. Results showed differences in characteristics such as frequency splitting and frequency gaps under different implementations of DMI modulation. The spin waves' dispersion relations exhibited varying features at different DMI strengths.

Chiral Emission of Exchange Spin Waves by Magnetic Skyrmions

Jilei Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the chirally emitted short-wavelength exchange spin waves in a low damping magnetic insulating thin film under the presence of magnetic skyrmions. The chirality of spin waves is attributed to the chiral spin pumping effect, with potential applications in nanomagnonics.

The 2021 Magnonics Roadmap

Anjan Barman et al.

Summary: Magnonics is a burgeoning research field that focuses on utilizing spin waves to transmit, store, and process information, showing significant progress in the past decade. The key challenges include excitation of sub-100 nm wavelength magnons, manipulation on the nanoscale, and creation of sub-micrometre devices using low-Gilbert damping magnetic materials. Magnonics offers advantages such as lower energy consumption, easier integrability, compatibility with CMOS structure, reprogrammability, shorter wavelength, smaller device features, anisotropic properties, negative group velocity, non-reciprocity, and efficient tunability by various external stimuli.

Propagation of Spin Waves in a 2D Vortex Network

Zhenghua Li et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully realized a higher-order vortex network through a designed nanostructure and demonstrated its potential as a waveguide for spin waves. The experiment showed that spin waves can propagate into the network through nanochannels formed by Bloch-Neel-type domain walls, with a propagation decay length of several micrometers, paving the way for the development of low-energy, reprogrammable, and miniaturized magnonic devices.

Reconfigurable Spin-Wave Interferometer at the Nanoscale

Jilei Chen et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates spin-wave interference with a 50 nm wavelength in a low-damping magnetic insulator, detecting constructive and destructive interference of spin waves in the frequency domain and confirming it through Brillouin light scattering. The interference pattern is highly sensitive to the distance between magnetic nanowires acting as spin-wave emitters, enabling control of the spin-wave interferometer by manipulating magnetic configurations.

Nonreciprocal Transmission of Incoherent Magnons with Asymmetric Diffusion Length

Jiahao Han et al.

Summary: The study shows that tunable nonreciprocal propagation can be achieved in incoherent magnons excited by the spin Hall effect in a magnetic bilayer stack with chiral coupling. This finding enriches the understanding of magnetic relaxation and diffusive transport, and has the potential to lead to the design of passive directional signal isolation devices in the diffusive regime.

Control of Nonlocal Magnon Spin Transport via Magnon Drift Currents

Richard Schlitz et al.

Summary: Spin transport via magnon diffusion in magnetic insulators is important, but the lack of the magnon equivalent of an electric force poses a bottleneck. The controlled generation of magnon drift currents in heterostructures of yttrium iron garnet and platinum has been demonstrated, with drift currents stemming from the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction. The drift current can be further controlled by the orientation of the magnetic field, changing the magnon propagation length and leading to a generalization of magnonic spin transport theory.

Unidirectional spin wave propagation due to a saturation magnetization gradient

P. Borys et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a saturation magnetization gradient in a perpendicularly magnetized ferromagnetic film induces nonreciprocal spin-wave propagation and an asymmetric dispersion relation. By adding a linear potential to the spin-wave equation of motion, unidirectional spin-wave propagation can be achieved, which is essential for the design of magnonic circuits. Recent experimental works using a suitable thermal landscape to dynamically modulate saturation magnetization further emphasize the relevance of these results.
