Excited-state quantum phase transitions

Pavel Cejnar et al.

Summary: The paper reviews the effects of excited-state quantum phase transitions (ESQPTs) in interacting many-body systems with finite numbers of collective degrees of freedom. It classifies typical ESQPT signatures in the spectra of energy eigenstates with respect to the underlying classical dynamics, outlining a variety of quantum systems in which they occur. The thermodynamic and dynamic consequences of ESQPTs, like those in microcanonical thermodynamics, quantum quench dynamics, and in the response to nearly adiabatic or periodic driving are described. Suggestions for generalizations of the ESQPT concept in periodic lattices and in resonant tunneling systems are also mentioned.

Quantum scarring in a spin-boson system: fundamental families of periodic orbits

Saul Pilatowsky-Cameo et al.

Summary: Periodic orbits are solutions for dynamical systems that repeat themselves, stable in regular regime and unstable in chaotic regime. Unstable periodic orbits are associated with quantum scarring, limiting the degree of delocalization of eigenstates and leading to revivals in dynamics. The effects of periodic orbits on eigenstate structure in regular and chaotic regimes are studied, along with quantifying the scarring of eigenstates and comparing dynamics of initial coherent states near and far from those orbits.

Ubiquitous quantum scarring does not prevent ergodicity

Saul Pilatowsky-Cameo et al.

Summary: This study reveals that all eigenstates of the chaotic Dicke model are scarred, contradicting the conventional belief that most eigenstates of quantum chaotic models are ergodic. Ergodicity is shown to be an ensemble property, achievable only through temporal averages.

Can we retrieve information from quantum thermalized states?

C. M. Lobez et al.

Summary: A protocol is proposed to prepare thermalized states storing relevant amounts of information by recording them in the integral of motion. Numerical calculations on the Dicke model show the possibility of leading a quantum system to chaotic regions without erasing information. A quantum mechanism is suggested to mimic classical chaos for efficient information erasure.
