Gold carbene complexes and beyond: new avenues in gold(I)-carbon coordination chemistry

Florian F. Mulks

Summary: The different coordination modes in carbon-gold(I) complexes, with a focus on gold(I), are highlighted in this article. The emergence and critical discussion of gold carbene complexes are presented, along with an overview of their bonding fundamentals and synthetic procedures. Recently synthesized and isolated intriguing and sometimes highly reactive gold-carbon coordination complexes are reviewed, providing a critical outlook into their potential applications. This includes vinylidene and higher cumulenylidene complexes, free carbenes with gold substituents, carbodicarbene complexes, and non-Fischer/Schrock sesquicarbene complexes.

Gold-Catalyzed Complementary Nitroalkyne Internal Redox Process: A DFT Study

K. Vipin Raj et al.

Summary: Gold catalysis is a promising area of research in organic synthesis in this century, with a focus on reactions involving alpha-oxo gold carbene/alpha-imino gold carbene intermediates. This manuscript documents theoretical investigations on the regio-selectivity dependence of substitution in the gold-catalyzed cycloisomerization of o-nitroarylalkyne derivatives, as well as the relative stabilities of alpha-oxo gold carbene intermediates.

Theoretical evaluation of the carbene-based site-selectivity in gold(iii)-catalyzed annulations of alkynes with anthranils

Kaifeng Wang et al.

Summary: By utilizing DFT calculations, this study evaluated the gold(iii)-catalyzed annulations of alkynes with anthranils and proposed a novel N-donation/abstraction substitution mechanism based on a unified rationale for Br-migration on alpha-imino gold(iii)-carbene. The research also uncovered controlling factors guiding the site-selectivity in these reactions, providing insight for developing new alpha-imino gold(iii)-carbene mediated reactions.
