Controlling the Aspect Ratios of Au Nanocrystals with Ag+ Addition Time in Seed-Mediated Synthesis: Implications for Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering

Debashree Roy et al.

Summary: This study explores the role of Ag+ in controlling the growth of Au nanocrystals (NCs) from the perspective of time, demonstrating that varying the time of Ag+ addition can generate Au NCs with tunable aspect ratios in high yield. The delayed addition of Ag+ leads to the formation of isotropic Au NCs, establishing timed addition of Ag+ as a crucial parameter in controlling the aspect ratio and potentially realizing a universal growth mechanism for Au NCs. The Au NCs with different aspect ratios have also been explored as potential substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) due to the presence of high-index facets and sharp tips.

Dynamic multiple nanoparticle trapping using metamaterial plasmonic tweezers

Domna G. Kotsifaki et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates the sequential trapping of 20nm particles using metamaterial plasmonic optical tweezers, with the investigation of multiple trapping via trap stiffness measurements for various trapping configurations. The plasmonic configuration could be utilized as a light-driven nanoscale sorting device, offering an alternative method to trap multiple nanoparticles at distinct hotspots and control mass transport on the nanoscale.

Optical Force-Induced Chemistry at Solution Surfaces

Hiroshi Masuhara et al.

Summary: Intense 1,064-nm continuous-wave laser tightly focused at solution surfaces exert optical force on molecules, polymers, and nanoparticles, leading to a variety of phenomena such as crystallization, nanoparticle assembly, and gold nanoparticle swarming. These phenomena, known as optically evolved assembling at solution surfaces, are elucidated in terms of dynamics and mechanisms in this study.
