Uniform supersonic flow sampling for detection by chirped-pulse rotational spectroscopy

Ranil M. Gurusinghe et al.

Summary: Chirped-pulse Fourier transform microwave (CP-FTMW) spectroscopy is a powerful detection method that has found applications in various fields. To improve its sensitivity in high-density conditions, a new setup combining airfoil-shaped sampling device with chirped-pulse mmW detection was introduced. The performance of this setup was validated using the reaction kinetics measurements, and the temperature and density variations in the uniform flow were studied using rotational spectroscopy and UV photodissociation.

Structures of guaiacol and the guaiacol-argon van der waals complex from rotational spectroscopy of guaiacol isotopologues

Ranil M. Gurusinghe et al.

Summary: High-resolution rotational spectra of guaiacol and its isotopologues, as well as the guaiacol-argon van der Waals complex, were recorded using a resonant-cavity Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. Results revealed the hydrogen bond structure and the location of argon atom in relation to the guaiacol molecule.

Discovery of the propargyl radical (CH2CCH) in TMC-1: One of the most abundant radicals ever found and a key species for cyclization to benzene in cold dark clouds

M. Agundez et al.

Summary: The propargyl radical CH2CCH was detected for the first time in interstellar space, showing similar abundance to methyl acetylene and potentially playing a key role in the synthesis of large organic molecules and cyclization processes to benzene in cold dark clouds.

Shape of Testosterone

Iker Leon et al.

Summary: The structure of testosterone was successfully characterized using high-resolution rotational spectroscopy, revealing an extended disposition in its isolated form. This study demonstrates the importance of combining laser ablation techniques with Fourier transform microwave techniques for studying large biomolecules and pharmaceuticals. It represents a significant step towards studying relevant biomolecules and developing new analytical techniques with unprecedented sensitivity and resolution.

Gas-phase synthesis of benzene via the propargyl radical self-reaction

Long Zhao et al.

Summary: The study provides compelling evidence that the self-recombination of two resonantly stabilized propargyl radicals in dilute environments can form the very first ringed aromatic benzene of PAHs. Along with benzene, other structural isomers and o-benzyne were detected and their branching ratios were experimentally quantified and verified with computational simulations. These results help uncover molecular growth pathways in various environments and improve our understanding of hydrocarbon chemistry in the universe.
