Synergy between Metallic and Oxidized Pt Sites Unravelled during Room Temperature CO Oxidation on Pt/Ceria

Frederic C. Meunier et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that metallic and oxidized Pt exist in similar proportions on the surface of nanoparticles at 30 degrees C under reaction conditions. The metallic Pt phase provides strong adsorption sites for CO, while the oxidized Pt phase supplies reactive oxygen, enabling a synergy between these phases.

Single Ir Atoms Anchored on Ordered Mesoporous WO3 Are Highly Efficient for the Selective Catalytic Reduction of NO with CO under Oxygen-rich Conditions

Ruihuan Jiang et al.

Summary: The catalyst consisting of single Ir atoms anchored on mesoporous WO3 showed excellent catalytic performance in the reduction of NO by CO under oxygen-rich conditions. The formation of isolated Ir atoms and newly generated Ir-WO3 interfaces, along with the presence of accessible mesopores in m-WO3, contribute to its superior catalytic activity. The study provides new insights into active sites in Ir-based catalysts and offers a new approach for the design and synthesis of single-atom catalysts, especially precious metal catalysts for emissions control.

Contributions and limitations of IR spectroscopy of CO adsorption to the characterization of bimetallic and nanoalloy catalysts

Taha Elgayyar et al.

Summary: This contribution reviews the structural features of supported bimetallic catalysts using IR spectroscopy of CO adsorption, focusing on active metals such as Au, Pd, Pt and Co. The difficulty in interpreting IR spectra during CO adsorption over certain bimetallic catalysts is highlighted, while crucial aspects like metal dispersion and surface segregation can still be obtained. The use of IR spectroscopy in investigating bimetallics or alloys remains challenging due to the complexity of spectra obtained, which depend on various parameters.

Unraveling the Intermediate Reaction Complexes and Critical Role of Support-Derived Oxygen Atoms in CO Oxidation on Single-Atom Pt/CeO2

Yubing Lu et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Pt single-atom catalysts are important for automobile emission control and understanding catalyst mechanisms. In CO oxidation studies, Pt-1 complexes exhibit different states during reaction cycles, with Pt(O)(4) as the dominant form and Pt(CO)(O)(3) as a minority complex. The presence of labile oxygen adatoms from the CeO2 surface plays a crucial role in the regeneration of Pt complexes during the reaction.
