Plasmon-Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity of Organic Heterostructure for Indoor-Light Antibacterial Therapy

Hui-Feng Jiao et al.

Summary: An all-organic chloridized g-C3N4/perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic diimide (Cl-CNPD) heterostructure is developed as a platform for plasmonic antibacterial nanocomposites, which show significantly enhanced antibacterial efficacy with in situ implanted homodispersed AgNPs and minimal toxicity. The nanocomposites exhibit high durability and a lasting antibacterial effect, making them a potential safe therapeutic system for wound disinfection.

Bubble dynamics of laser-induced cavitation in plasmonic gold nanorod solutions and the relative effect of surface tension and viscosity

Ariana Nushin Sabzeghabae et al.

Summary: The study found that laser-induced cavitation (LIC) bubbles induced in solutions containing gold nanoparticles (GNP) were more efficiently formed at lower energy levels compared to regular solutions, producing higher-intensity pressure waves. Furthermore, the research explored the impact of surface tension and viscosity of the solutions on the dynamics of LIC bubbles.

Spectrally-selective mid-IR laser-induced inactivation of pathogenic bacteria

Victor Kompanets et al.

Summary: Research has demonstrated the enhanced biocidal efficiency of selective excitation using focused mid-IR femtosecond laser radiation on bacteria compared to uniform excitation. The bacterial inactivation by 6-mu m ultrashort laser pulses is attributed to the dissociative denaturation of lipids and proteins in the cell membranes and intra-cell nucleic acids.

Strong and fast rising pressure waves emitted by plasmonic vapor nanobubbles

Julien Lombard et al.

Summary: Plasmonic vapor nanobubbles can emit strong pressure waves when generated around a laser-heated nanoparticle in water, especially when the fluid is in a supercritical state. These waves can induce spatially and temporally localized damage, with acoustic-mediated perforation found to be more efficient than nanobubble expansion for breaching cell membranes.
