ThH5: An Actinide-Containing Superhalogen Molecule

Mary Marshall et al.

Summary: Research on ThH5- has shown its unique structure with five Th-H single bonds and its superhalogen properties. Experimental and theoretical calculations confirmed the existence of these bonds and the highest H/M ratio among the actinide elements. The study provides important insights into the chemical bonding of ThH5- and its potential applications in nuclear materials.

Th2O-, Th2Au-, and Th2AuO1,2- Anions: Photoelectron Spectroscopic and Computational Characterization of Energetics and Bonding

Zhaoguo Zhu et al.

Summary: The observation and characterization of anions Th2O-, Th2Au-, and Th2AuO1,2- was reported using a combination of anion photoelectron spectroscopy and ab initio correlated molecular orbital theory calculations. The results showed good agreement between experimentally determined and computationally predicted data for vertical detachment energies and electron affinities. The bonding analysis revealed significant ionic components in the structures of both the neutrals and anions.

Guided Ion Beam Studies of the Thorium Monocarbonyl Cation Bond Dissociation Energy and Theoretical Unveiling of Different Isomers of [Th,O,C]+ and Their Rearrangement Mechanism

Arjun Kafle et al.

Summary: Threshold collision-induced dissociation of ThCO+ with xenon was studied experimentally, providing the first experimental determination of the bond dissociation energy of Th+-CO at 0 K as 0.94 +/- 0.06 eV. The experimental and theoretical results were in good agreement, with additional investigations on the ionization energy, atomization energies, and heats of formation for ThCO and ThCO+. Construction of potential energy profiles for different isomers of [Th,O,C](+) and investigation of chemical bonding patterns in low-lying states of ThCO+ were also conducted.

The electron affinity of the uranium atom

Sandra M. Ciborowski et al.

Summary: Experimental and computational studies were conducted to determine the electron affinity of the uranium atom. The experimentally measured electron affinity was found to be 0.309 eV, while the computationally predicted value was 0.232 eV. Additionally, electron attachment to the 6d orbital was observed in both thorium and uranium calculations.
