Deep-blue organic light-emitting diodes based on push-pull π-extended imidazole-fluorene hybrids

Guowei Chen et al.

Summary: Four donor-pi-acceptor luminophores based on pi-extended imidazole-fluorene hybrid have been developed for potential applications in deep-blue electroluminescence. The introduction of alkyl chains in PhIF-2 and PyIF-2 can tune the photophysical properties, leading to better solid-state emission. These new compounds exhibit intense high-energy fluorescence suitable for OLED applications, with PhIF-1 and PyIF-1 achieving maximum EQE of 3.65% and 3.75% in non-doped OLEDs. Overall, this work provides insight for designing 7c-extended imidazole D-x-A luminophores for deep-blue electroluminescence applications.

Rapid and sensitive detection of nerve agent mimics by meso-substituted BODIPY piperazines as fluorescent chemosensors

Fentahun Wondu Dagnaw et al.

Summary: In this study, three meso-substituted BODIPY piperazines were prepared for the rapid and sensitive detection of nerve agent simulants. Among them, BPA-2 showed the best fluorescence sensing performance with the lowest detection limits. Polymer test strips embedded with BPA-2 exhibited rapid response, high sensitivity, and selectivity for detecting nerve agents in gas phase.

Chemical targets to deactivate biological and chemical toxins using surfaces and fabrics

Christia R. Jabbour et al.

Summary: To prepare for the next global threat, it is crucial to develop environments where infectious diseases and dangerous chemicals cannot be easily spread or misused, especially for those in high exposure situations who need adequate protection. Recent studies have shown that the use of metal and metal-oxide catalysts, as well as metal-organic frameworks, can help accelerate the inactivation of biological and chemical toxins.

Acid is a potential interferent in fluorescent sensing of chemical warfare agent vapors

Shengqiang Fan et al.

Summary: Fluorescent sensing materials commonly used for detecting chemical warfare agents and simulants may give false positives in the presence of acids due to the nitrogen-based groups' basicity. This study examines the response of pyridyl-containing sensing materials to acid-containing and acid-free Sarin and simulants.
