Review of microwave techniques used in the manufacture and fault detection of aircraft composites

Z. Li et al.

Summary: Microwaves are commonly used for telecommunications, navigation and food processing, as well as in fiber-reinforced polymer composites. Low-power microwave techniques are suitable for quality checks, strain sensing, and damage inspection, while high-power microwave energy can be used for heating and curing, offering advantages such as volumetric heating, reduced processing time, and energy saving.

Detection of solid contaminants in gas flows using microwave resonant probes

Zubair Akhter et al.

Summary: The paper presents a microwave sensing system that utilizes resonant probes for the detection and monitoring of solid contaminants in gas pipelines. The system evaluates the concentration of solid contaminants by analyzing the scattering parameters of resonant probes at a resonant frequency. Experimental validation demonstrates the efficacy of the system in detecting and evaluating solid contaminants in dual-phase flows.

Microwave Nondestructive Testing for Defect Detection in Composites Based on K-Means Clustering Algorithm

Nawaf H. M. M. Shrifan et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel microwave NDT technique based on k-means unsupervised machine learning for defect detection in composites. Unsupervised machine learning is utilized to enhance imaging efficiency and defect detection in GFRP. The technique involves scanning the composite material with an open-ended rectangular waveguide operating from 18 to 26.5 GHz and mitigating the influence of permittivity variations on reflected coefficients due to random patterns in GFRP by measuring the mean of adjacent points at each operating frequency point.
