Influence of Bi2O3/WO3 substitution on the optical, mechanical, chemical durability and gamma ray shielding properties of lithium-borate glasses

Salavadi Stalin et al.

Summary: Six different lithium bismuth boro-tungstate glasses with varying compositions were produced and studied for their optical, mechanical, and chemical properties. The substitution of Bi2O3/WO3 was found to have a direct impact on the glasses' photon attenuation abilities. The glasses showed promising structural, optical, and photon attenuation properties for gamma shielding applications.

Alteration of optical, structural, mechanical durability and nuclear radiation attenuation properties of barium borosilicate glasses through BaO reinforcement: Experimental and numerical analyses

Hesham M. H. Zakaly et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in optical, structural, mechanical durability, and nuclear radiation attenuation properties of barium borosilicate glasses through BaO reinforcement. The results showed that glasses with higher BaO content had better gamma radiation shielding properties. Additionally, replacing B2O3 with BaO led to an increase in hardness and changes in vibrational modes related to the compositions.

Structural investigations on Mo, Cs and Ba ions-loaded iron phosphate glass for nuclear waste storage application

Dimple P. Dutta et al.

Summary: Iron phosphate glass (IPG) is considered as an alternate vitrification matrix for nuclear waste containing constituents like molybdenum oxide (MoO3) and cesium oxide (Cs2O), showing better solubility. Various analytical techniques have been used to study the properties of IPG and Mo/Cs/Ba ions co-loaded IPG, revealing superior performance of the ion-loaded IPG. This suggests the potential application of IPG as a suitable vitrification matrix for nuclear wastes with these constituents.

Effect of Al2O3 on the phase composition and structural features of iron pyrophosphate glasses

Fu Wang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of Al2O3 substitution for Fe2O3 on the phase composition and structure features of iron pyrophosphate glasses. Higher than 10mol% of Al2O3 substitution leads to the appearance of AlPO4 phase in the amorphous structure. The substitution induces changes in the phosphate groups composition and enhances the glass network.

Studies on the uranium speciation in zinc iron phosphate (ZnIP) glass using Mossbauer and EXAFS spectroscopic investigations

N. Praveena et al.

Summary: A zinc iron phosphate glass loaded with 5-15 mol% UO3 was prepared by melt quench process. The solubility of UO3 in ZnIP was determined to be below 15 mol%, with separation of UP2O7 compound observed beyond this concentration. Fe(II)/Fe(III) ratio was found to decrease from 0.071 to 0.029, and two types of coordination for U-O and Fe-O were prevalent in the ZnIP glass matrix, while a single chemical environment for Zn-O was observed.

Structural and optical studies on Dy3+ ions doped alkali lead borophosphate glasses for white light applications

P. Arun Jeganatha Joseph et al.

Summary: The study investigated the physical, structural, and spectroscopic properties of Dy3+ ions doped alkali lead borophosphate glasses. It was found that the density and refractive index of the glasses increased with higher Dy3+ ion concentrations, leading to the creation of more non-bridging oxygen in the glass matrix. The glasses showed an amorphous nature with various absorption peaks and intense luminescence peaks centered at 478 nm and 574 nm, showcasing potential for white light applications.
