Chronic morphine intoxication reduces binding of HuD to BDNF long 3′-UTR, while morphine withdrawal stimulates BDNF expression in the frontal cortex of male Wistar rats

Danil Peregud et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association of HuD with BDNF 3'-UTR in the brain of morphine dependent animals, finding that after chronic morphine intoxication, HuD binding decreased while BDNF expression remained unchanged; upon morphine withdrawal, BDNF expression increased but no changes in HuD binding were detected. These results suggest that the interaction between HuD and BDNF 3'-UTR, as well as BDNF expression, may change differently depending on the context of morphine action in the brain.

Summary: This study found that swimming exercise during morphine abstinence before mating in parents-to-be can reduce morphine-induced preference and locomotor activity in pubertal rat offspring, potentially lowering the risk of opioid addiction.

mPFC GABAergic transmission mediated the role of BDNF signaling in cognitive impairment but not anxiety induced by adolescent social stress

Hang Xu et al.

Summary: Adolescent social stress can induce emotional and cognitive alterations in adult animals, accompanied by decreased BDNF levels in the mPFC and reduced GABAergic transmission. Impairment in BDNF signaling downstream GABAergic transmission in the mPFC may be involved in depression with comorbid cognitive dysfunction.

Immunopharmacotherapeutic advancements in addressing methamphetamine abuse

Jinny Claire Lee et al.

Summary: Methamphetamine is a global illicit psychostimulant known for substance abuse disorders but lacks approved pharmacotherapies. Traditional treatments using small molecule agonists or antagonists targeting drug-specific receptors in the brain have limitations in efficacy. Immunopharmacotherapeutic advancements present a promising alternative to address methamphetamine abuse by eliminating central nervous system receptor occupation through peripheral sequestration of abused drugs.
