Photobiomodulation and diffusing optical fiber on spinal cord's impact on nerve cells from normal spinal cord tissue in piglets

Xiaoshuang Zuo et al.

Summary: Researchers have explored the use of implantable optical fibers for the treatment of spinal cord injury, aiming to determine whether diffused light energy has side effects on normal tissue. The results of this study will provide a foundation for the clinical application of near-infrared light irradiation in the treatment of spinal cord injury.

The effect of low-level laser therapy on pathophysiology and locomotor recovery after traumatic spinal cord injuries: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Zahra Ayar et al.

Summary: The study suggests that laser therapy with wavelengths between 600 and 850 nm can effectively suppress inflammation, promote M2 polarization of inflammatory cells, and aid wound healing. Additionally, this therapy can improve axon regeneration and remyelination, leading to better locomotor recovery.

Photobiomodulation Promotes Neuronal Axon Regeneration After Oxidative Stress and Induces a Change in Polarization from M1 to M2 in Macrophages via Stimulation of CCL2 in Neurons: Relevance to Spinal Cord Injury

Qiao Zheng et al.

Summary: The study showed that PBM could reduce ROS levels in neurons, increase neuronal survival under oxidative stress, and promote neuronal axon regeneration. Additionally, PBM was found to promote CCL2 secretion by DRG under oxidative stress. By constructing a DRG supernatant-M1 macrophage adoptive culture model, it was demonstrated that the supernatant of DRG after PBM intervention could reduce the expression level of iNOS and the secretion of TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta in M1 macrophages, while up-regulating the expression of Arg-1. These effects could be prevented by the addition of neutralizing antibodies of CCL2.

Controlled release of baricitinib from a thermos-responsive hydrogel system inhibits inflammation by suppressing JAK2/STAT3 pathway in acute spinal cord injury

Xuan-Qi Zheng et al.

Summary: The injectable PLGA-PEG-PLGA thermos-sensitive hydrogel containing Baricitinib (Bari-P hydrogel) reduced neuronal apoptosis and promoted functional recovery in spinal cord injured rats. By inhibiting the JAK2-STAT3 pathway and controlling the expression of inflammatory cytokines, the Bari-P hydrogel showed therapeutic potential.

Ceria nanoparticles ameliorate white matter injury after intracerebral hemorrhage: microglia-astrocyte involvement in remyelination

Jingwei Zheng et al.

Summary: CeNP treatment alleviates white matter injury induced by ICH by modulating ROS-induced microglial polarization and astrocyte alteration. CeNP promotes remyelination and OPC differentiation, while inhibiting the expression of M1 microglia and A1 astrocyte. The findings suggest that CeNP could be a potential therapeutic strategy for white matter injury.

Photoactivation of TGFβ/SMAD signaling pathway ameliorates adult hippocampal neurogenesis in Alzheimer's disease model

Xiaolei Wu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that PBMT promotes adult hippocampal neurogenesis in APP/PS1 mice by activating LTGFβ1, leading to the differentiation of NSCs into newborn neurons. PBMT also enhances spatial learning/memory ability in APP/PS1 mice. Additionally, PBMT-stimulated ROS activates the TGFβ/Smad signaling pathway, resulting in upregulation of neuronal markers Dcx and Tuj1 while downregulating GFAP.
