The relativistic effects on the methane activation by gold(I) cations

Regis T. Santiago et al.

Summary: The reactivity of gold in methane activation has been studied with an in-depth analysis of relativistic effects. The global reaction proceeds rapidly at low temperatures towards HAuCH3+, while the relativistic corrections can enhance the rate constant of the process but slow down the reverse reaction. Global product formation becomes significant at higher temperatures above 1500 K.
