Charge Mobility in Discotic Liquid Crystals

Roberto Termine et al.

Summary: Discotic liquid crystals, characterized by their self-assembling properties, have been studied extensively due to their potential in testing energy and charge transport theories, their ease of processability with various solvents, and their semiconducting properties for organic electronic devices. The research on charge transport properties includes analysis of phase structure, models for describing charge mobility, and techniques for measuring charge mobility in discotic liquid crystals.

The effect of amide bond orientation and symmetry on the self-assembly and gelation of discotic tripeptides

Santosh Kumar et al.

Summary: A series of discotic tripeptides containing a rigid aromatic core and L-phenylalanine have been developed, and their aggregation properties were found to be strongly influenced by the orientation of the amide bonds. The study revealed differences in the aggregation properties and morphology of the discotic tripeptides, with C-3-symmetric peptides forming organogels and N-centered and C=O-centered peptides forming 3-fold intermolecular H-bonded helical columns. This research provides a valuable approach for fine-tuning functional materials based on discotic tripeptides.
