Risk of Rectovaginal Fistula in Women with Excision of Deep Endometriosis Requiring Concomitant Vaginal and Rectal Sutures, with or without Preventive Stoma: A Before-and-after Comparative Study

Horace Roman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the rate of rectovaginal fistulas in women with deep endometriosis treated with either a liberal policy of preventive stoma (LPS) or a more restrictive policy of preventive stoma (RPS), and to identify risk factors for rectovaginal fistula. The study found no statistically significant differences in the risk of rectovaginal fistula between the two treatment approaches.

Low anterior resection syndrome following different surgical approaches for low rectal endometriosis: A retrospective multicenter study

Attila Bokor et al.

Summary: This study suggests that there is no significant difference in the occurrence of Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) between nerve- and vessel-sparing segmental resection (NVSSR) and laparoscopic-transanal disk excision (LTADE) in treating low rectal deep endometriosis (DE) patients. However, LTADE surgery may result in a higher rate of severe complications compared to NVSSR surgery. More prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Surgical Management by Disk Excision or Rectal Resection of Low Rectal Endometriosis and Risk of Low Anterior Resection Syndrome: A Retrospective Comparative Study

Marilena Farella et al.

Summary: The study compared the outcomes of women with deep endometriosis undergoing disk excision or rectal resection, and found that disk excision was associated with a higher rate of normal bowel movements postoperatively. Conversely, rectal resection was linked to increased stool frequency, clustering, and fecal urgency in women with deep endometriosis infiltrating the low rectum.
