Medium-Entropy perovskites Sr(FeαTiβCoγMnζ)O3-δ as promising cathodes for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell

Leyu Shen et al.

Summary: The study shows that medium-entropy perovskites Sr(FeαTiβCoγMnζ)O3-δ (SFTCM) have potential as cathode materials for IT-SOFC, with lower thermal expansion coefficients, suppressed strontium surface segregation, and more stable polarization resistance while slightly reducing catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction reaction.

Thermal-expansion offset for high-performance fuel cell cathodes

Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates an approach to achieving full thermo-mechanical compatibility between the cathode and other cell components for solid oxide fuel cells. By introducing a thermal-expansion offset and using reactive sintering to form a composite electrode, the research shows high activity and excellent stability of the electrode. The introduction of reactive negative-thermal-expansion components may provide a general strategy for developing fully compatible and highly active electrodes for SOFCs.

Highly Durable C2 Hydrocarbon Production via the Oxidative Coupling of Methane Using a BaFe0.9Zr0.1O3-δ Mixed Ionic and Electronic Conducting Membrane and La2O3 Catalyst

Georgios Dimitrakopoulos et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates long-term stable OCM performance enabled by a BFZ91 perovskite as the oxygen-ion MIEC membrane and La2O3 as the OCM catalyst. Under various operating conditions, BFZ91 shows high oxygen permeation flux, methane conversion, and selectivities to ethane and ethylene.

Comprehensive analysis of oxygen transport properties of a BaFe0.7Zr0.2Y0.1O3-δ-based mixed ionic-electronic conductor

Liana R. Tarutina et al.

Summary: Mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIECs) offer a convenient method for separating oxygen from air with high efficiency and low energy consumption. In this study, new strategies for fabricating MIEC-based membranes, including the preparation of a new BFZY material and using a tape-calendaring method, were proposed. Experimental results demonstrated that the membrane achieved maximal oxygen fluxes at 750 degrees C and 850 degrees C.

A Review on Perovskite-Type LaFeO3 Based Electrodes for CO2 Reduction in Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells: Current Understanding of Structure-Functional Property Relationships

Mykhailo Pidburtnyi et al.

Summary: MIECs are extensively studied as potential replacements for cermet catalysts in SOCs, with LaFeO3-based catalysts showing high activity and stability. This review focuses on the chemical composition-crystal structure-physical property relationships and electrochemical reaction mechanisms in LaFeO3 electrodes, discussing mechanisms for electrochemical CO2 reduction and oxygen diffusion.

Computational Design and Experimental Validation of the Optimal Bimetal-Doped SrCoO3-δ Perovskite as Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Cathode

Xin Mao et al.

Summary: Studies have shown a balance between oxygen vacancy formation and migration in designing SrCoO3-delta-based materials, using radius and electronegativity as descriptors. Doped SrCoO3-delta materials exhibit promising activity, with Sc-Ta co-doped and Sc-Nb co-doped SrCoO3-delta identified as the best among 91 bimetal-doped perovskites. The results open up a new pathway for designing SOFC cathodes with optimal performance.

Barium Titanate as a Highly Stable Oxygen Permeable Membrane Reactor for Hydrogen Production from Thermal Water Splitting

Guanghu He et al.

Summary: A novel BaMg0.1Zr0.05Ti0.85O3-δ (BMZ-Ti) perovskite membrane with superior chemical stability and environment-responsive mixed conductivity was synthesized, showing an oxygen permeation flux larger than 0.3 mL min(-1) cm(-2) under a H2O/(CH4-CO2) gradient. The BMZ-Ti membrane has the potential to be used as an oxygen permeable membrane for efficient hydrogen production from water.
