A Visible-Light-Regulated Chloride Transport Channel Inspired by Rhodopsin

Jiaxin Quan et al.

Summary: Inspired by the light-regulating capabilities of naturally occurring rhodopsin, a visible-light-regulated Cl- transport membrane channel has been constructed based on a supramolecular host-guest interaction. Utilizing the visible-light responsiveness of the host-guest interaction, ion transport can be regulated by visible light between ON and OFF states. This research may further understanding of biological ion transport behaviors and provide insights for visible-light-responsive ion transport devices.

Unraveling the anomalous channel-length-dependent blue energy conversion using engineered alumina nanochannels

Yen-Shao Su et al.

Summary: Experimental results show that in sufficiently short nanochannels, the shorter the channel length, the smaller the generated power, contrary to past understanding. This anomaly is explained by a model tracing back to the ion concentration polarization effect, which significantly reduces effective salinity ratio and ion selectivity in the nanochannel.
