Correlation of High-Risk HPV Genotypes with Pap Test Findings: A Retrospective Study in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia

Haitham Kussaibi et al.

Summary: The study in Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia investigated the prevalence and genotypes of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR HPV) among 164 women, showing a certain rate of positive HR HPV detection and its association with abnormal Pap test results. Statistical analysis revealed a significant correlation between HPV status and Pap test findings.

Genetic signatures for lineage/sublineage classification of HPV16, 18, 52 and 58 variants

Zhihua Ou et al.

Summary: The study identified genetic signatures for the determination of lineage/sublineage of HPV16, 18, 52 and 58 variants, indicating heterogeneity in carcinogenicity and geographic dispersion. Surveillance in Eastern China is crucial due to the circulation of HPV variants with higher cancer risk, such as HPV16 A4 and HPV58 A3, as revealed by classifying HPV genomes obtained from Chinese females. Marker genes and signature nucleotide positions may aid in cost-effective diagnostic detections of HPV variants in clinical settings.

Distribution of the most common types of HPV in Iranian women with and without cervical cancer

Zohreh Farahmand et al.

Summary: The study found a relatively high prevalence of HPV infection in Iran, with 78.8% of cervical cancer patients testing positive for HPV DNA, most commonly HPV16. HPV6 and HPV11 were not detected in any cervical cancer cases, with lower prevalence compared to healthy women.
