The Effect of Information and Communication Technology and Social Networking Site Use on Older People's Well-Being in Relation to Loneliness: Review of Experimental Studies

Georgia Casanova et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the causal effect of ICT and SNS use on elderly people's well-being related to loneliness. The findings showed a weak positive relationship between ICT use and older people's well-being and loneliness, with overall studies lacking sound experimental designs and facing limitations in sampling methods and recruitment strategies. The analysis confirmed the beneficial effect of ICT use on reducing loneliness among older people, but highlighted the need for further research with adequate methodological rigor.
