Unveiling the spin-to-charge current conversion signal in the topological insulator Bi2Se3 by means of spin pumping experiments

J. B. S. Mendes et al.

Summary: By injecting a pure spin current into the Bi2Se3 layer through spin pumping, we observed spin-to-charge current conversion at the Bi2Se3/ferromagnet interface attributed to the inverse Rashba-Edelstein effect (TREE). The voltage generated by this conversion process in Bi2Se3 has the same polarity as the inverse spin Hall effect in Ta, and the thickness of Bi2Se3 allowed us to calculate the TREE length values, supporting a dominant role of surface states in the spin-to-charge current conversion process.

Recent progress on measurement of spin-charge interconversion in topological insulators using ferromagnetic resonance

Rik Dey et al.

Summary: Spin-orbit coupling in materials is crucial for the interconversion between spin and charge currents, especially in reduced dimensions where the effects are enhanced. Extensive research has been conducted to explore potential material systems for high spin-charge interconversion rates, with recent experimental advances focusing on detecting and accurately measuring these conversions in topological insulators.

Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance in two-dimensional materials at room temperature

J. B. S. Mendes et al.

Summary: This study reports the observation of Rashba-Edelstein magnetoresistance (REMR) in single layer graphene (SLG) and 2D semiconductor MoS2 at room temperature. The direct and inverse Rashba-Edelstein effects in a YIG/2DM structure couple current-induced spin accumulation to the electric resistance, producing the REMR. The measured REE lengths for the two materials agree well with values obtained using the electric spin pumping technique.
