Accumulation of amyloid precursor protein C-terminal fragments triggers mitochondrial structure, function, and mitophagy defects in Alzheimer's disease models and human brains

Loan Vaillant-Beuchot et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that APP-CTFs may trigger AD pathology, while mitochondrial dysfunction is considered an early event in AD development. Accumulation of APP-CTFs can lead to mitochondrial morphological changes and impaired basal mitophagy, possibly playing a crucial role in AD pathogenesis.

Photobiomodulation suppresses JNK3 by activation of ERK/MKP7 to attenuate AMPA receptor endocytosis in Alzheimer's disease

Qi Shen et al.

Summary: Research has shown that PBM can attenuate synaptic dysfunction and neuronal death induced by A beta through MKP7-dependent suppression of JNK3, which is related to neurodegeneration. PBM also reduces amyloid load, AMPA receptor endocytosis, dendrite injury, and inflammatory responses, rescuing memory deficits in APP/PS1 mice. Mechanistically, PBM activates ERK to inactivate JNK3 by phosphorylating and stabilizing MKP7, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy for AD.

Involvement of various chemokine/chemokine receptor axes in trafficking and oriented locomotion of mesenchymal stem cells in multiple sclerosis patients

Gholamhossein Hassanshahi et al.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic immune-mediated disease with no known treatment yet. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) show promise in MS treatment by their ability to migrate and home into the CNS. The chemokine/chemokine receptor axes play a pivotal role in MSC trafficking and their targeted tropism to the CNS in MS patients.

Summary: Brain stroke is an emergency medical condition caused mainly by insufficient blood flow to the brain, resulting in permanent cellular damage. Ischemic and hemorrhagic are the two main types, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment. Computer-aided diagnosis can help in early detection of life-threatening diseases through image processing techniques.

ATP level in red blood cells improves by altering the low-level DPSS laser irradiation condition

Mustafa Salih Al Musawi et al.

Summary: The study showed that irradiating stored blood with DPSS lasers at wavelengths of 405, 589, and 670 nm increased ATP levels in human red blood cells. Different laser wavelengths and storage times had significant effects on the ATP levels in RBCs, suggesting structural transformations in the red blood cell membrane or its components.
