Comprehensive evaluation of stormwater pollutants characteristics, purification process and environmental impact after low impact development practices

Zheng Kong et al.

Summary: Understanding stormwater characteristics and purification processes of different underlying surfaces in intensive LID catchments is crucial for summarizing issues with built LID practices and providing guidance for future LID construction. Results from a study in Yuelai, Chongqing showed varying stormwater pollutant characteristics and purification processes in different LID areas due to distinct layouts and facilities. Although LID construction significantly reduced pollutants and improved water quality, challenges such as inadequate nitrogen removal and runoff scouring effect still need to be addressed in the future.

Impact of antecedent dry-weather period and rainfall magnitude on the performance of low impact development practices in urban flooding and non-point pollution mitigation

Wenyu Yang et al.

Summary: The study found that increasing the length of ADP and rainfall intensity can improve LID performance, but model uncertainty has a greater impact on water quality performance; LID performance is heterogeneously distributed in space and is influenced by ADP length and rainfall intensity.

Performance assessment of sponge city infrastructure on stormwater outflows using isochrone and SWMM models

Yuanyuan Yang et al.

Summary: The sponge city construction in China integrates with stormwater management infrastructure based on low impact development concept to mitigate urban flooding and storm pollution. An analytic framework using isochrone and SWMM models was developed to simulate and assess the performance of sponge city infrastructure on controlling stormwater outflows. The modeling results showed that the infrastructure significantly reduces the risk of stormwater overflows and relieves pressure on flood control systems downstream, with performance decreasing as rainstorms become less frequent and more intense.
