Coupling threshold theory and satellite-derived channel width to estimate the formative discharge of Himalayan foreland rivers

Kumar Gaurav et al.

Summary: The methodology proposed involves automatic extraction of channel width from satellite images which are then converted into discharge using a previously established width-discharge regime curve. The threshold theory is used to explain the first-order geometry of alluvial channels. This approach has been successfully applied to estimate the formative discharge of six major rivers of the Himalayan foreland.
