Long-term and seasonal variation in groundwater storage in the North China Plain based on GRACE

Yi Xu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the seasonal and long-term trend changes of groundwater storage in the North China Plain using satellite products and models. The results showed a long-term decline trend in groundwater storage, with seasonal variations influenced by precipitation. The South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project also had a certain impact on groundwater storage.

Transboundary cooperation a potential route to sustainable development in the Indus basin

Adriano Vinca et al.

Summary: The study highlights the water stress and energy insecurity in the Indus river basin in South Asia, emphasizing the importance of transboundary cooperation for more cost-effective and environmentally friendly development. By collaborating on water resources, electricity, and food production, the countries in the region could lower costs, reduce soil pollution, and mitigate water scarcity issues.

Overview of terrestrial water storage changes over the Indus River Basin based on GRACE/GRACE-FO solutions

Yu Zhu et al.

Summary: Water resources in the highly populated Indus River Basin are facing severe stress due to increased consumption across different sectors and climate change, affecting groundwater recharging and availability. The study reveals significant decreases in Terrestrial Water Storage Anomaly (TWSA) over the past two decades, predominantly caused by ineffective water management and over-exploitation leading to groundwater loss.
