Evaluating Variable-Resolution CESM Over China and Western United States for Use in Water-Energy Nexus and Impacts Modeling

Zexuan Xu et al.

Summary: Climate models are important tools for studying earth system processes, and downscaled models like VR-CESM provide refined-resolution data for regional water-energy impact analyses. The study found that simulated precipitation skill depends on the reference data sets used, with VR-CESM showing the smallest bias and added value from resolution refinement. However, temperature biases are generally greater than precipitation, with warm biases in low-elevation regions in China and cold biases in mountains.
