A one-pot three component synthesis of novel spiro[acridine-9,3 '-indoline]-1,2 '(2H,10H)-dione derivatives has been successfully achieved under greener conditions, by condensing isatin, dimedone, and aniline. The notable features of this synthesis include the use of a greener solvent (ethanol:water mixture) and the isolation of products by a simple water washing method. The structures of the synthesized compounds have been thoroughly elucidated through various spectroscopic techniques.
