Hepatitis B core related antigen in relation to intrahepatic and circulating viral markers, before and after combination therapy

Robin Erken et al.

Summary: The study validated the relationship between HBcrAg and other viral markers, showing that HBcrAg more accurately reflects the transcription activity of cccDNA and may replace HBV-DNA as a marker in future treatment regimens.

Ubiquitous expression of HBsAg from integrated HBV DNA in patients with low viral load

Marie-Anne Meier et al.

Summary: Integrated HBV DNA can contribute to HBsAg production independently of viral replication, and transcribed HBV integration can extend to the entire liver in some HBe-negative patients, leading to ubiquitous HBsAg expression. This questions the clinical utility of HBsAg as a surrogate marker for viral replication in patients with low serum viral loads.

HBV RNA Profiles in Patients With Chronic Hepatitis B Under Different Disease Phases and Antiviral Therapy

Lung-Yi Mak et al.

Summary: This study explored the profile of HBV RNA in patients with chronic hepatitis B and its correlation with other viral markers. The results showed distinct profiles of HBV RNA in patients at different disease phases and its strong correlation with HBcrAg. NA treatment could effectively reduce serum HBV RNA levels in treatment-naive patients. Monitoring of viral activities through serum HBV RNA is still possible in patients with undetectable HBV DNA.

Comparative biomarkers for HBsAg loss with antiviral therapy shows dominant influence of quantitative HBsAg (qHBsAg)

Seng Gee Lim et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of qHBsAg, HBV RNA, and qHBcrAg in predicting HBsAg loss in CHB patients, finding that on-treatment biomarker predictors were more effective than baseline ones. The best predictor of HBsAg loss at 72 weeks was a qHBsAg level <70 IU/mL at week 8.

Characterization of Hepatitis B Precore/Core-Related Antigens

Xupeng Hong et al.

Summary: HBcrAg is an emerging peripheral marker for monitoring intrahepatic viral activities in chronic HBV infection, comprising HBc, HBeAg, and PreC components with diverse proteolytic processing and genotype-specific variations. HBeAg is the predominant form in HBeAg-positive patients and shows positive correlations with PreC and HBcrAg levels, suggesting distinct functions and applications for each component in reflecting viral activities.
