Silicate glass matrix@Cu2O/Cu2V2O7 p-n heterojunction for enhanced visible light photo-degradation of sulfamethoxazole: High charge separation and interfacial transfer

Amit Kumar et al.

Summary: A novel three dimensional silicate glass matrix coupled with Cu2O/Cu2V2O7 p-n heterojunction showed promising results in treating pharmaceutical contaminated water, achieving high removal rates of sulfamethoxazole. The use of natural sunlight and internal reflection significantly improved the photocatalytic efficiency, paving the way for future opportunities in degrading recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutants.

In-situ fabrication of 3D hierarchical flower-like β-Bi2O3@CoO Z-scheme heterojunction for visible-driven simultaneous degradation of multi-pollutants

Xueyan Liu et al.

Summary: The study developed a novel direct Z-scheme β-Bi2O3@CoO heterojunction catalyst with a 3D hierarchical structure, showing superior photocatalytic activity towards various organic pollutants under visible-light irradiation. The direct Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism between β-Bi2O3 and CoO was confirmed, contributing to the enhanced catalytic performance. This work provides a simple method for designing and constructing promising 3D hierarchical direct Z scheme photocatalysts for water environment remediation.

Photocatalytic materials and light-driven continuous processes to remove emerging pharmaceutical pollutants from water and selectively close the carbon cycle

Gianvito Vile

Summary: Pharmaceutical pollutants in water effluents are becoming more prevalent, highlighting the need for effective methods to remove organic pollutants and harmful pathogens; current technologies often overlook the importance of producing more biodegradable products, resulting in the formation of by-products that are more toxic than the initial substrate; future research should focus on the rational design of catalytic materials and the selection of emerging reactor concepts to achieve the goal of biodegradable products.
