Bringing ecology into toxicology: Life-cycle toxicity of two neonicotinoids to four different species of springtails in LUFA 2.2 natural soil

Claudia de Lima e Silva et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that F. candida is a good model organism for ecotoxicological testing, while other species of springtails can also be used as surrogates and to predict the impact on population after exposure to chemicals. Adjustments made to the test with F. candida proved to be as efficient as the standardized test guideline (OECD 232, 2009).

Clothianidin in the Tropical Sugarcane Ecosystem: Soil Persistence and Environmental Risk Assessment Under Different Organic Manuring

T. Ramasubramanian

Summary: The persistence of clothianidin in tropical sugarcane ecosystem was found to be stable under different organic manuring conditions, with insignificant impact of organic manures on its soil persistence. However, during the dissipation process of clothianidin, the residues in the soil may pose a certain level of risk to earthworms.

Pesticides and Soil Invertebrates: A Hazard Assessment

Tari Gunstone et al.

Summary: Agricultural pesticide use poses significant hazards to soil invertebrates, with the majority of tested parameters showing negative effects. This highlights the importance of considering soil organisms in risk analysis of pesticides that may contaminate soil, and taking measures to minimize harm to soil organisms and the ecosystem services they provide.
