Activation of the acute inflammatory phase response in idiopathic nephrotic syndrome: association with clinicopathological phenotypes and with response to corticosteroids

Neus Roca et al.

Summary: The activation of the inflammatory response in patients with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) is heterogeneous, with a higher prevalence in patients with minimal change disease (MCD) or focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) compared to those with membranous nephropathy (MN). Elevated levels of haemopexin (Hx), haptoglobin (Hgl) or interleukin-6 (IL-6) are independently associated with steroid resistance in MCD and FSGS patients.
