Numerical analysis on the development of vortex structure in 90° pipe bend

Prasun Dutta et al.

Summary: This paper numerically studies single-phase turbulent flow through a 90 degrees pipe bend with different curvature ratios at high Reynolds numbers. The simulations reveal a complex change in flow pattern with the appearance, development, and disappearance of various Dean vortices, providing a tentative map for the development of different vortices in space at different Reynolds numbers and curvature ratios.
