Development and characterization of novel cell lines from kidney and eye of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss for virological studies

S. Suryakodi et al.

Summary: Novel cell lines from rainbow trout eye, kidney, and spleen were successfully characterized and cryopreserved at different passage levels. These cell lines showed susceptibility to fish nodavirus and tilapia lake virus, while being resistant to Cyprinid herpesvirus 2. They were utilized for virus isolation from disease suspected fish samples, demonstrating their potential importance in virology research.

Comprehensive update on inventory of finfish cell lines developed during the last decade (2010-2020)

Raja Swaminathan Thangaraj et al.

Summary: Cell culture has become an essential part of modern research, offering the best alternatives for biological studies on whole animals. This review provides a comprehensive update on new fish cell lines established in the past decade, with a focus on the appraisal of literature and work done globally, raising the total number of finfish cell lines to 783. The highest number of cell lines developed in the past decade came from the fish of the family Cyprinidae, particularly in Asian countries, and the review discusses the need for new cell line development and various applications and future prospects.

BEI Inactivated Vaccine Induces Innate ad Adaptive Responses and Elicits Partial Protection upon Reassortant Betanodavirus Infection in Senegalese Sole

Yulema Valero et al.

Summary: Nervous necrosis virus (NNV) is a serious threat to marine and freshwater fish species, and Senegalese sole in Mediterranean aquaculture is highly susceptible to NNV outbreaks. Vaccines for aquaculture, such as those based on formalin or binary ethylenimine (BEI) inactivation, have shown promise in inducing immune responses and improving survival rates in NNV-infected fish. Further research is needed to enhance the protection effectiveness of these vaccines and gain a deeper understanding of the immune mechanisms involved.
