Genomic analysis uncovers functional variation in the C-terminus of anthocyanin-activating MYB transcription factors

Jessica A. Rodrigues et al.

Summary: In this study, novel MYB transcription factors were identified across the genomes of four crops, leading to an updated eudicot MYB phylogeny and new insights into the sequence variation in the C-terminus of anthocyanin-activating MYBs. Experimental results highlighted the presence of new short linear motifs within subgroup 6, which may play a role in protein-protein interaction.

MYBA and MYBPA transcription factors co-regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis in blue-coloured berries

Katja Karppinen et al.

Summary: This study comprehensively characterized the regulatory network of R2R3 MYB transcription factors in anthocyanin biosynthesis in blue berries of bilberry. It identified a new type of co-regulation between MYBA, MYBPA1, and MYBPA2 subgroups, and associated MYBPA3 subgroup with proanthocyanidin biosynthesis. The results suggest gene duplication enabled functional diversification among various MYB subgroups for the intricate regulation of anthocyanin profiles in blue-coloured berries.
