Review on the potential application of non-phenolic compounds from native Latin American food byproducts in inflammatory bowel diseases

Roberto de Paula do Nascimento et al.

Summary: Inflammatory bowel diseases, characterized by immune-mediated inflammation and dysbiosis, can significantly reduce life quality. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in using non-phenolic compounds from native Latin American food byproducts for the prevention or treatment of IBDs. These compounds, such as unsaturated fatty acids, dietary fibers, and bioactive peptides, have shown promising anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and/or anti-dysbiotic effects in in vitro and animal studies.
