Characteristics of an atrazine degrading bacterium and the construction of a microbial agent for effective atrazine degradation

Jiangwei Zhu et al.

Summary: Strain YQJ-6, identified as Bacillus atrophaeus, is capable of highly degrading atrazine with a degradation rate of approximately 99.2% in 7 days. It also has a high tolerance to atrazine, making it suitable for commercial microbial agent production to treat atrazine residues in soil. It is believed that strain YQJ-6 can be used to control atrazine pollution effectively.

The addition of biochar as a sustainable strategy for the remediation of PAH-contaminated sediments

Francesco Bianco et al.

Summary: Biochar is proposed as an innovative and sustainable technology for remediation of PAH-contaminated sediments, mainly through sorption mechanisms. The use of biochar can significantly improve the efficiency of PAH removal from sediments, especially when used in combination with multi-PAH systems and high dosages. Additionally, biochar has shown to decrease PAH degradation during bioaugmentation and phytoremediation of sediments, but can increase degradation when used with nitrate as an electron acceptor in low-temperature conditions.
