Alteration of optical, structural, mechanical durability and nuclear radiation attenuation properties of barium borosilicate glasses through BaO reinforcement: Experimental and numerical analyses

Hesham M. H. Zakaly et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in optical, structural, mechanical durability, and nuclear radiation attenuation properties of barium borosilicate glasses through BaO reinforcement. The results showed that glasses with higher BaO content had better gamma radiation shielding properties. Additionally, replacing B2O3 with BaO led to an increase in hardness and changes in vibrational modes related to the compositions.

Physical, structural, optical and gamma-ray shielding properties of Na2O-CdO-Bi2O3-B2O3 glasses

Yasser S. Alajerami et al.

Summary: The study introduced a new gamma-ray shielding glass composed of a borate-base modified with sodium oxide, cadmium oxide, and various concentrations of bismuth oxide. The results showed an enhancement in shielding parameters with an increase in bismuth oxide content, suggesting the use of glasses with higher bismuth oxide for gamma radiation shielding facilities.

Characterization of optical and radiation shielding behaviors of ferric oxide reinforced bismuth borate glass

A. M. A. Henaish et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of ferric oxide on the optical and radiation shielding behaviors of bismuth borate glasses. It was found that increasing Fe2O3 concentration in the glass structure led to a decrease in direct and indirect optical band gaps, as well as an increase in mass attenuation coefficients and effective atomic numbers. The Fe-10 glass sample showed the lowest half-value layer values and the highest mass attenuation coefficients and effective atomic numbers.
