Prospects for Electrical Performance Tuning in Ca3Co4O9 Materials by Metallic Fe and Ni Particles Additions

Summary: This work explores the design possibilities for high-temperature electrical performance of the thermoelectric Ca3Co4O9 phase using a composite approach with separate metallic iron and nickel particles additions and employing two different sintering schemes. The highest power factor value was achieved for the composite with 3% vol. nickel content processed via a two-step sintering cycle, showing the effectiveness of this approach is strongly dependent on processing conditions and added amounts of metallic particles. Tailoring the phase composition of Ca3Co4O9-based materials can impact thermoelectric performance, highlighting the necessity for more controllable approaches for phase composition tuning.
