This review highlights the important role and application of photothermal therapy combined chemotherapy in overcoming chemoresistance in cancer treatment.
Chemoresistance is the refractoriness of the cancer cells to the commonly used chemotherapeutic agents. It is one of the significant challenges in the treatment of cancer. To overcome the emergence of chemoresistance in cancer, the concept of multimodal therapy came into practice. Amongst all the modalities, photothermal therapy combined chemotherapy has publicized excellent outcomes in preventing chemoresistance. This review highlights the overarching role of photothermal therapy combined chemotherapy in chemo-resistant cancer treatment with a detailed explanation of principle mechanics and engineered nanoplatforms. Special notes on clinical studies challenges applied and potential measures are also discussed.
