KiDS-1000 methodology: Modelling and inference for joint weak gravitational lensing and spectroscopic galaxy clustering analysis

B. Joachimi et al.

Summary: This paper presents a methodology for joint cosmological analysis using weak gravitational lensing and galaxy clustering data from multiple surveys. The analysis incorporates cross-correlations, develops a hybrid model for non-linear scales, updates calibration procedures, and assesses signal contributions from astrophysical effects. The study also validates likelihood and goodness-of-fit statistics, introduces a new prior on the structure growth parameter, and proposes an alternative estimator for S-8 weak lensing constraints. Systematic effects are shown to bias S-8 by no more than 0.1 standard deviations, with expected improvements in S-8 constraints compared to previous analyses.

KiDS-1000 Cosmology: Multi-probe weak gravitational lensing and spectroscopic galaxy clustering constraints

Catherine Heymans et al.

Summary: This study combines weak gravitational lensing observations from KiDS-1000, redshift-space galaxy clustering observations from BOSS, and galaxy-galaxy lensing observations from overlapping surveys to constrain the structure growth parameter S-8, resulting in a discrepancy with the Planck observations by 8.3% relative to Planck. The systematic uncertainties identified through various analyses are incorporated into the cosmological analysis, revealing a tension in the matter fluctuation amplitude parameter, sigma(8).

Cross-correlation of Planck CMB lensing with DESI-like LRGs

Ellie Kitanidis et al.

Summary: Cross-correlations between CMB lensing and large-scale structure tracers offer a unique method to study dark matter growth, break degeneracies in cosmology, and test modified gravity theories. By detecting a significant cross-correlation between DESI-like luminous red galaxies and CMB lensing maps, corrections for magnification bias and galaxy bias were determined, showing excellent agreement with survey expectations. This analysis provides valuable insights into the growth of dark matter and the evolution of large-scale structures.

Galaxy clustering in the DESI Legacy Survey and its imprint on the CMB

Qianjun Hang et al.

Summary: Using data from the DESI Legacy Survey, research investigated the galaxy density field in tomographic slices covering the redshift range 0 < z < 0.8. Cross-correlation analysis of photometric redshifts and CMB maps revealed the growth of structure since z = 0.8. In the context of Lambda CDM, a reduction in fluctuation normalization or matter density was found to be necessary based on the results from lensing and CMB analysis.

Probing galaxy bias and intergalactic gas pressure with KiDS Galaxies-tSZ-CMB lensing cross-correlations

Ziang Yan et al.

Summary: This study successfully constrains the redshift dependence of gas pressure bias and galaxy bias through cross-correlations between galaxy positions, tSZ effect, and CMB lensing. The best-fit values of gas pressure bias are around 0.3 meV cm(-3) and slightly increase with redshift, while galaxy bias remains consistent with unity across all redshift bins. The results are in agreement with previous measurements and theoretical predictions, demonstrating the feasibility of using CMB lensing to calibrate galaxy distribution for mass proxy applications.

Redshift-space distortions in Lagrangian perturbation theory

Shi-Fan Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a method for computing the one-loop 2-point function of biased tracers in redshift space is presented using Lagrangian perturbation theory, with a full resummation of long-wavelength displacements and velocities. The model accurately predicts the power spectrum and correlation function of halos and mock galaxies, including baryon acoustic oscillation signal damping due to bulk galaxy motions. The study also compares this full resummation approach with other techniques and discusses the computation of resulting expressions numerically for efficient computation.

The cosmology dependence of galaxy clustering and lensing from a hybrid N-body-perturbation theory model

Nickolas Kokron et al.

Summary: The researchers developed a model that combines dark matter dynamics with analytic bias expansion for analyzing the two-point statistics of biased tracers. They demonstrated the accuracy and applicability of their emulation procedure, showing its ability to describe complex tracer samples and fit clustering and lensing statistics effectively. The emulator is shown to be a promising tool for cosmological parameter inference and analysis of data from galaxy surveys.

Galaxy bias from forward models: linear and second-order bias of IllustrisTNG galaxies

Alexandre Barreira et al.

Summary: The study uses field-level forward models of galaxy clustering and EFT likelihood formalism to infer the relations between linear bias parameters (b(1), b(2), b(K2)) in self-consistently simulated galaxies. It finds that bias relations in total mass selected objects are broadly preserved in simulated galaxies selected by various characteristics, and shows good agreement with observed galaxy samples. The use of EFT likelihood also recovers sigma(8) values from different galaxy samples, demonstrating the potential of forward models in inferring cosmological information from galaxy data.

Hefty enhancement of cosmological constraints from the DES Y1 data using a hybrid effective field theory approach to galaxy bias

Boryana Hadzhiyska et al.

Summary: This study reanalyzes cosmic shear and galaxy clustering data from the first year of the Dark Energy Survey, using a Hybrid Effective Field Theory (HEFT) approach to model the galaxy-matter relation on weakly non-linear scales. The results show an improvement in cosmological constraints by extending the galaxy clustering scale range and using the HEFT model to explain the data up to certain wavenumbers. Constraints on parameters such as (S-8, Omega(m)) and Hubble parameter are derived, but the results are investigative and subject to caveats discussed in the text.

Summary: Determining the redshifts of galaxies observed by wide-field photometric experiments is crucial for mapping the matter density with gravitational lensing. Cobaya: code for Bayesian analysis of hierarchical physical models

Jesus Torrado et al.

Summary: Cobaya is a general-purpose Bayesian analysis code designed for models with complex internal interdependencies. It efficiently exploits interdependencies between different stages of a model pipeline, automatically caches intermediate results, and optimally sorts parameters to minimize computational costs during sampling. The code allows exploration of posteriors using Monte Carlo samplers, functions for maximization and importance-reweighting of samples, and can be extended and parallelized with minimal overhead per posterior evaluation.

Completed SDSS-IV extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Cosmological implications from two decades of spectroscopic surveys at the Apache Point Observatory

Shadab Alam et al.

Summary: Based on the final measurements of clustering using galaxies, quasars, and Ly alpha forests from the SDSS lineage, this study provides comprehensive cosmological implications. The BAO data alone can rule out dark-energy-free models, and when combined with other measurements, significant improvements are made on constraining cosmological parameters within the ΛCDM model. The results indicate that various parameter extensions remain consistent with a ΛCDM model in a combined analysis, showing precision changes of less than 0.6% in key parameters.

Omar Darwish et al.

Summary: Using data from 2014 and 2015 seasons of observation with the ACT, cosmic microwave background lensing mass maps were constructed and a novel cleaning procedure was used to remove thermal SZ contamination. The cross-spectrum between the cleaned lensing map and the BOSS CMASS galaxy sample was detected at 10 sigma significance. These results lay the foundation for future lensing cross-correlation science with ACT data.
