Weakening gravity for dark matter in a type-II minimally modified gravity

Antonio De Felice et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new cosmological framework integrating dark matter into a minimally modified gravity model, maintaining the same number of gravitational degrees of freedom through a series of transformations. The framework includes two time-dependent free functions to achieve desired evolutions of Hubble expansion rate and effective gravitational constant for dark matter.

Black hole perturbations in DHOST theories: master variables, gradient instability, and strong coupling

Kazufumi Takahashi et al.

Summary: We studied linear perturbations about static and spherically symmetric black hole solutions with stealth scalar hair in degenerate higher-order scalar-tensor (DHOST) theories. Master variables were clarified and the quadratic Lagrangian for both odd- and even-parity perturbations was derived. It was found that the even modes are generally plagued by gradient instabilities, or else the perturbations would be strongly coupled.

Perturbations and quasinormal modes of black holes with time-dependent scalar hair in shift-symmetric scalar-tensor theories

Keitaro Tomikawa et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate odd parity perturbations of spherically symmetric black holes with time-dependent scalar hair in shift-symmetric higher-order scalar-tensor theories without assuming degeneracy conditions. By analyzing the general form of the quadratic Lagrangian and refining the stability conditions, we obtain insights into the behavior of these perturbations. This research also extends to include the matter energy-momentum tensor as a source term, providing a more comprehensive understanding of the dynamics involved.
