Effect of pore size and spacing on neovascularization of a biodegradble shape memory polymer perivascular wrap

Timothy C. Boire et al.

Summary: Neointimal hyperplasia is a common cause of failure in arteriovenous fistulas and vascular grafts. Perivascular wraps made of biodegradable materials have shown promise in reducing neointimal hyperplasia by promoting neovascularization. This study investigated the impact of pore size and spacing on implant neovascularization, finding that wider-spaced, smaller-sized pores induced a more robust angiogenic response.

Processing, mechanical properties and bio-applications of silk fibroin-based high-strength hydrogels

Yu Zhao et al.

Summary: Hydrogels are versatile materials in biomedical engineering with applications similar to wet tissues. Silk fibroin (SF) is a natural polymer with biocompatibility and tunable biodegradation, but its poor mechanical performance hinders its structural applications. Researchers are exploring strategies to enhance the strength of SF-based hydrogels for biomedical uses.
