Afferent and efferent connections of the nucleus prethalamicus in the yellowfin goby Acanthogobius flavimanus

Hanako Hagio et al.

Summary: The nucleus prethalamicus (PTh) in the yellowfin goby receives fibers from the optic tectum and projects to various regions in the telencephalon and cerebellum. It is composed of two subnuclei, with topographic organization observed only in tectal projections to the lateral subnucleus. The study suggests that PTh relays visual information from the optic tectum to the telencephalon.

Neural pathways of olfactory kin imprinting and kin recognition in zebrafish

Gabriele Gerlach et al.

Summary: Teleost fish exhibit remarkable cognitive abilities comparable to mammals and birds. Research reveals that besides having a hippocampus and pallial amygdala homolog, teleost fish also possess subpallial amygdalar structures, which helps explain their kin recognition abilities based on olfactory and visual imprinting.
