Copper Sulfide Nanoassemblies for Catalytic and Photoresponsive Eradication of Bacteria from Infected Wounds

Amit Nain et al.

Summary: BSA-encapsulated copper sulfide nanocrystals (CuS NCs) were prepared and exhibited enzyme-like and photodynamic activities. under NIR laser irradiation, the antimicrobial response was significantly enhanced and >99% of bacteria were eradicated in just 1 min. The BSA-CuS NCs showed insignificant cytotoxicity and hemolysis, making them highly biocompatible bactericides for effective bacteria eradication in preclinical applications.

Development, structure and mechanics of a synthetic E. coli outer membrane model

Balint Kiss et al.

Summary: This study reports the step-by-step assembly of a synthetic outer membrane model, revealing the contributions of lipids, lipopolysaccharides, and proteins to the structure and stability of bacterial outer membranes. By progressively adding different components to liposomes, researchers found that LPS tends to form stable vesicles and can separate from lipid membranes to form independent structures.
