Tyrosyltyrosylcysteine-Directed Synthesis of Chiral Cobalt Oxide Nanoparticles and Peptide Conformation Analysis

Hyeohn Kim et al.

Summary: Chiral inorganic nanomaterials, particularly chiral cobalt oxide nanoparticles synthesized with L- and D-Tyr-Tyr-Cys ligands, have been highlighted for their catalytic activity and biocompatibility. The conformation of the Tyr-Tyr-Cys peptide on the nanoparticle surfaces was identified by 2D NMR spectroscopy analysis, and the sequence effect of Tyr-Tyr-Cys developing chiral nanoparticles was analyzed. The role of the thiol group and carboxyl group of the Tyr-Tyr-Cys ligand in chirality evolution was demonstrated, with the circular dichroism responses being dramatically modulated under an external magnetic field due to the magnetic properties of chiral cobalt oxide nanoparticles.

Recent Advances in Nanomaterial-Based Nanoplatforms for Chemodynamic Cancer Therapy

Shu-Lan Li et al.

Summary: Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) uses endogenous chemical energy in the tumor microenvironment for treatment, converting hydrogen peroxide into reactive oxygen species for oncotherapy. However, limitations in the tumor microenvironment hinder CDT efficacy, and the development of nanotechnology offers potential solutions to improve CDT efficiency.

Manganese-Dioxide-Coating-Instructed Plasmonic Modulation of Gold Nanorods for Activatable Duplex-Imaging-Guided NIR-II Photothermal-Chemodynamic Therapy

Ting He et al.

Summary: A plasmonic modulation strategy of gold nanorods through manganese dioxide coating has been developed for NIR-II photoacoustic/magnetic resonance imaging-guided photothermal chemodynamic therapy. The LSPR peak of gold nanorods can be tuned by adjusting the thickness of the MnO2 layer, and the MnO2 layer can degrade in the tumor microenvironment for MR imaging and chemodynamic therapy. This strategy can be applied to other metal nanomaterials for construction of a new class of NIR-II nanotheranostics.

Reversing the Chirality of Surface Ligands Can Improve the Biosafety and Pharmacokinetics of Cationic Gold Nanoclusters

Hao Tang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that substituting L-glutathione with its D-counterpart on cationic gold nanoclusters (GNCs) can improve their biosafety and pharmacokinetics; D-GNCs show no cellular cytotoxicity, hemolysis, or acute organ damage compared to L-GNCs; and D-GNCs exhibit longer circulation time in vivo and potentially better tumor targeting abilities than similarly-sized poly (ethylene glycol)-modified gold nanoparticles.
