One-step chemical bath co-precipitation method to prepare high hydrogen-producing active ZnxCd1-xS solid solution with adjustable band structure

Lili Lu et al.

Summary: A series of ZnxCd1-xS solid solutions were synthesized via a one-step chemical bath co-precipitation method. The chemical composition of these solid solutions can be controlled by adjusting the ratio of Zn source to Cd source and the dosage of ammonia solution. In photocatalysis experiments, the Zn0.30Cd0.70S sample showed optimum water splitting performance with a high hydrogen evolution rate.

In situ facile fabrication of Ni(OH)2 nanosheet arrays for electrocatalytic co-production of formate and hydrogen from methanol in alkaline solution

Jie Hao et al.

Summary: Ni(OH)2 nanosheet arrays were prepared on Ni foam through ultrasonication and exhibited high activity for selective oxidation of methanol to produce formate and hydrogen without CO2 emissions. The method reduces energy consumption for hydrogen evolution from water and simplifies the electrolysis system by allowing easy separation of anodic and cathodic products.

Improved charge carrier separation of Schottky junction containing a bimetallic Cu-Pd alloy and N-Bi2WO6 square-shaped discs for photocatalytic H2 performance

Kotesh Kumar Mandari et al.

Summary: This study presents bimetallic Cu-Pd/N-Bi2WO6 heterostructures as efficient photocatalysts for hydrogen production, with high hydrogen production rates attributed to active sites of Cu-Pd alloy nanospheres and rapid charge transfer channels between Cu-Pd and N-Bi2WO6. The enhanced photocatalytic performance is achieved through aggregation of the highly dispersed Cu-Pd alloy nanospheres on the N-Bi2WO6 surface, providing a new effective route for high-performance heterostructures design in photocatalytic H-2 production.

Summary: This study investigates the electron transfer mechanism in composite co-catalysts for efficient photocatalytic H-2 evolution using Ru and WC as probes. The results show a synergistic effect between Ru and WC in some assembly methods, while in other cases Ru may have a harmful effect on the catalytic activity.

0D?-Ni(OH)2 nanoparticles/1D Mn0.3Cd0.7S nanorods with rich S vacancies for improved photocatalytic H2 production

Jingwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Engineering semiconductor materials with vacancies and co-catalysts is an effective method to enhance their photocatalytic performance. In this study, Mn0.3Cd0.7S nanorods modified with S vacancies and ?-Ni(OH)2 nanoparticles exhibited excellent visible-light H2-production activity, attributed to enhanced transfer/separation of photogenerated carriers and increased reaction sites. These findings propose a new approach for utilizing metal hydroxide co-catalysts and vacancies in sulfide materials for photocatalytic H2 production.
