Open Problems in Wetting Phenomena: Pinning Retention Forces

Rafael Tadmor

Summary: This study reviews existing explanations for drop pinning and depinning, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of various theories and their applicability to different experimental systems. It also describes force laws that can be deduced from these theories and the physical meaning extracted from retention force measurements.
