Current trends in the use of O-(2-[18F]fluoroethyl)-L-tyrosine ([18F]FET) in neurooncology

Carina Stegmayr et al.

Summary: PET using [F-18]FET has proven to be a valuable tool in diagnosing brain tumors, providing important diagnostic data and aiding in the differentiation between tumors and benign tissue. Due to its advantages, [F-18]FET has widely replaced other tracers in many centers across Western Europe.

Randomized Phase II and Biomarker Study of Pembrolizumab plus Bevacizumab versus Pembrolizumab Alone for Patients with Recurrent Glioblastoma

Lakshmi Nayak et al.

Summary: The study showed that pembrolizumab alone or in combination with bevacizumab had limited efficacy in the treatment of recurrent glioblastoma, failing to improve patient survival rates. Tumor immune biomarkers were not reliable predictors of treatment outcomes, while baseline dexamethasone use and certain tumor biomarkers may impact treatment efficacy.

Cancer Stem Cells in Metastatic Head and Neck Cutaneous Squamous Cell Carcinoma Express Components of the Renin-Angiotensin System

Sam Siljee et al.

Summary: Our study investigated the expression of renin-angiotensin system components by cancer stem cell subpopulations in metastatic head and neck cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. Through immunohistochemical staining, Western blotting, and RT-qPCR, we confirmed the complex molecular expression pattern, with angiotensinogen, PRR, ACE, and AT(1)R transcripts present, while renin and AT(2)R were absent, and ACE2 expression was tissue-specific. Further immunostaining showed specific expression patterns within tumor nests and peritumoral stroma.

Expression of Components of the Renin-Angiotensin System by Cancer Stem Cells in Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma

Summary: This study demonstrated the expression of PRR, ACE2, and AT(2)R by the CSCs within RCCC. Further studies may lead to novel therapeutic targeting of CSCs by manipulation of the RAS in the treatment of this aggressive cancer.

The Role of the Renin-Angiotensin System in the Cancer Stem Cell Niche

Ethan J. Kilmister et al.

Summary: Cancer stem cells play a crucial role in cancer progression and treatment resistance, with the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) and its bypass loops being key regulators in the tumor microenvironment. Targeting the RAS and its associated signaling pathways could offer a novel approach to cancer treatment, based on evidence of reduced tumor growth and metastasis with RAS inhibition.

The Renin-Angiotensin System in the Tumor Microenvironment of Glioblastoma

Michael O'Rawe et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma (GB) is an aggressive brain tumor with poor prognosis despite extensive research. The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) plays a critical role in influencing cancer stem cells and tumor microenvironment in GB. Targeting RAS with existing medications presents a potential new therapeutic strategy for GB treatment.
