Summary: Overall, there was no consistent superiority observed between DTE, LT4+T3, and LT4 in treating hypothyroid patients. However, the most symptomatic patients on LT4 showed a preference for and positive response to therapy with LT4+T3 or DTE, as evidenced by improvements in various outcome measures.

Benefits and Harms of Levothyroxine/L-Triiodothyronine Versus Levothyroxine Monotherapy for Adult Patients with Hypothyroidism: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Summary: The study found that there was no significant difference in clinical outcomes between LT4/LT3 combined therapy and LT4 monotherapy for treating hypothyroidism in adults, except for a higher proportion of patients preferring combined therapy. Adverse events and reactions appeared to be similar across both treatment groups, but more research is needed to confirm this observation. These results could help guide shared decision-making conversations between patients and clinicians.
